the screen is amazing and even though they only made the screen a half inch larger it makes a difference and I like that it is still easily held in one hand making the screen longer and not wider is a good innovation. While current 5th generation iPod touch may work fine for folks like you, the truth of the matter is that (1) Apple is moving to 64-bit architecture (Metal API only supports A7 or better) and (2) it has 3-year old iPhone 4S spec, which is ancient by mobile standard. There are other reasons as well, for example, I like the relative simplicity of the non-touch ipc and physical controls on the device itself (even when I use an in-line remote)
While any update is probably going to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, the change *could* be to a much faster platform with a much more responsive screen, and maybe a fix for nit picky lens issue. You pick a great choice to go with touch 5 16gb, im looking to get one of those myself since my iphone already got great camera and 16GB should be just fine
