Tramadol extended-release in the management of chronic pain
Tramadol IR has been widely prescribed as an unscheduled opioid in the US for the treatment of chronic pain for more than 10 years, and has demonstrated efficacy and safety in the treatment of moderate to moderately severe pain (ACR 2000; Ultram PI 2004; Mattia and Coluzzi 2005). Therefore, the 400 mg dose of tramadol ER, which is not approved for treatment of chronic pain, may have contributed to the higher rate of adverse events in this study (Ultram PI 2006).Unlike other agents such as nonselective NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors, tramadol has no known association with cardiovascular disease or stomach ulcers.Tramadol ER should be used with caution in the geriatric population (Tramadol ER PI 2006)

Many patients who experience a sudden flare-up will go to the doctor for care and for many patients this apparently "acute" set of symptoms will result in the diagnosis of this chronic condition. Gentle strengthening of the quadriceps (front of the thigh) muscles such as by using a stationary bicycle is probably the most effective approach for this

A friend of mine (an avid runner) had the surgery, and he has been in pain for almost 2 yrs now, he cant even walk fast, even tho the MRI reveals a perfectly repaired knee. It didn't seem to effect my running so much, so I didn't alter that a great deal (maybe didn't do an extra interval or km once or twice), but I iced it a lot, made sure to stretch carefully, and paid close attention that it didn't get worse (it didn't)
